“CAKE TROOPER” by Mike Stimpson

Regardless of culture and era—as long as the pair in question is willing and joyous (besotted), of course—the happiest day in a society is probably that of a wedding day. I was reminded of this only yesterday. Yes, of course there’s the typical scrumptious food, the amazing decorations, the lively melodies that sashays around the room and jumps through hoop earrings and tinkles against silverware and nips at the jewel-shoed heels of the dancers. But there’s also the unique mix of the happy solemn and the exhilarated raucous, the fusion of religious awe and ethnic festivity. And above all, there’s the pattern of smiling faces, of heartfelt contagious goodwill (to you, to the couple, to all mankind), of sorrows and troubles and grudges set aside for at least one day and night. It’s a reminder of the lure and power and continuation and conviction and hope of love everlasting. It’s the celebration of bliss, where you’re welcome to feast in the company of love and peace.
