An Order of Me—Shaken (Not Stirred)
Can you imagine a world of no literal speech? Where the tongue is lifeless, without power? Where every thought and emotion are expressed in every other aspect of the face—an upturning of the mouth, a tweak of an eyebrow, a pressing of lips, a glow of an eye?
Would that make communication easier or more difficult, you think? There would still be language, a different language—that of the body, the eyes, the facial expressions we have come to neglect so much on our own bodies by mindlessly transmitting them drunkenly sideways on the monitors of computers and cell phones. As long as there is language, there will be rules and codes of that language. As long as there is understanding, there will be misunderstandings. As long as there is emotion, there will be an avenue of expression.
It is like how a blind man perfects his auditory and sensory capabilities, or how a deaf woman can pick up words by reading lips. If you lack something, you make up for it otherwise—one more way of proving how much untapped capability is contained in our minds and bodies, unshaken and unstirred until Need walks into our bar and gives us its order. What if we tap into it before the Need? The potential within us is monstrous (in the best of ways). It’s a fascinating shame not to consider it.
