She was hopeless, helpless, head cradled in her hands, hands cradling the dead weight of a head tired of collecting memories. Her eyes flicked over the book of quotes beneath her, slipped onto her desk by her own hands and her subconscious self, the wind sneaking through the window to ripple the pages along. It died down only after page 12, where a quote glowed up from the paper like the best quotes tend to do, and made her blink twice to read it. (more…)

Man Out of Harbor

And yet, appearances can be deceiving. And a ship out of harbor is not a safe ship—but ships were not meant for harbors, as the saying goes. A harbor is nonetheless necessary; it is a home, a sanctuary from the storms, a chance to reconnect with life and brush wooden flanks with other ships and be reminded of the smells and sights and tastes of land, of the community.
