I have returned from a four-year journey exploring the visual arts around the world, and brought back all sorts of interesting things to share with you on this blog. These include pictures, photographs, carvings, and tapestries – in fact anything that tells a story through the eyes. This photograph was taken in the Netherlands. Continue Reading

The Passage

Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook

I found this picture in an art gallery in the City of Bangkok. At first, I thought the person was floating on an ocean. Actually, she seems to be on a more supportive surface, something like a bed sheet.

Can you see the pathway that comes from behind her and extends all the way to the horizon? When you look carefully, it goes on right up into the sky. She seems very peaceful doesn’t she? But wait. What’s her dress resting on? There seem to be two containers with people lying on them.

Life’s full of intriguing mysteries. Sometimes, we literally can’t see the truth because of preconceptions. Art teaches us to turn the world around and see things in a different way.

I think this is a picture of two persons going up to heaven escorted by an angel. The picture is very restful. I think we should all like to pass on this way.  Now that I understand it, the picture gives me a great sense of comfort. I think the artist is saying there’s somewhere we go to when we die. If I were asked to give it a name, I’d call it “The Passage”.

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome back to the new ARTSHARKS Blog!

Please join us in welcoming a new addition to the ARTSHARKS Blog family “Noel Worthington-Smythe

I’m a fine art dealer and amateur painter living in Devon, England. After I sold my studio in the West End of London and retired, I decided to explore the world of art by visiting different cultures around the globe.

I wanted to understand the differences between nations, and how they express their feelings through their visual arts. I needed to see what they were saying (not hear them speak about their feelings), because I knew I did not have the time to learn so many languages.

My journey took four years. During this time, I visited all five continents, and travelled to many fascinating places. When I returned a week ago with my collection of more than 2,000 photographs, I decided to start this blog and share my understandings of them. I’m hoping others will join me on this journey, and share their own experiences too.
