““DANCING WITH TREES” by phatpuppy
If you enter the garden by night
Stealthy as a spearhead of moon
There is a sight that may enchant your eyes
And make you gasp and gawk and swoon,
For only in the dead of night
When the wind has stilled its shudders and sighs
The flowers unfurl their fisted heads
And blink their tiny dewdrop eyes.
The colors range from white to black
With all the shades of plum, cream, and rose,
And when they get up together to dance
They intertwine their thorns and strike a pose—
Almost as if they knew you had come
Almost as if they knew you were peering
But instead they get swept up in their strange dance
And forget that humans exist and are seeing.
