“FOCAL POINTE” by Geoff Coleman

“FOCAL POINTE” by Geoff Coleman

Both here and there. There and everywhere. Nowhere but anywhere else.

Maybe if I bend enough my nose will reach my toes. Maybe, just maybe, I can touch my heel to my ear. The triangle of palm and two toe-tips—for how else could I be in three places at once?—will become a point, a point of a palm, one point of pain, when I lift those toe-tips to convince you that I am nowhere but here.

And where do I look as I balance? The creases of my fingers, the angle of my wrist, the free fall of my feet? When I touch down to catch my breath and my bearings, what pretzel shape will I find myself in? It probably won’t be the same as the last. It’s a test, of sorts, to see how many contortions the body can adjust to.

There is no option of falling. There is no option of failing. This is all just a dream, turned into a concept, turned into a theory, turned into a reality, an existence, a now.

Flexible. Isn’t that how you wanted me? Untangle me, now, if you can.
