“GOOD MORNING, LOVE…” by Nira Dabush
A delicate flush of mauve tickling the throat of the horizon, rising very gradually to flood the face of the heavens with a rosy sunrise blush. A cryof bluejays greeting the early worm with ravenous glee after a night of fasting. A keening wail of a lonely train that swerves serpentine through villages and hillsides, biting one train track at a time and propelling its mechanical centipede body forward. A hazy autumn sunrise reflected in the bleary-eyed gaze of the trucker who returns home after an overnight odyssey on the roads. A warm voice, hoarse with sleep and sweet with motherhood, waking children for school. An unfurling of a breathtaking butterfly of a flower that was unborn only yesterday. A floppy thunk of a newspaper thrown on the doorstep by a sleepless little boy. golden ray through homely crotch-lace curtains hand-woven from a grandmother compassionate enough to create. A kiss of honey, promises, and tenderness that fills my mouth and veins like a shot of the sweetest whiskey. You give me sunrise with your smile.
