Lonely and Alone

“A ROAD LESS TRAVELED” by Mugsy
The difference between loneliness and aloneness teeters on a fine, thin line, which is a line nonetheless. As a general rule, but not always, it seems lonely is an unwanted emotion, whereas alone is a state of being that is sought after and thus attained. Lonely is when your heart yearns for companionship; alone is when your heart repels it. Of course, loneliness can lead to the withdrawal of being alone, and being alone can make someone feel lonely. On the other hand, although you don’t have to be lonely when you are alone, you can still be lonely when you are not.
Think about it the next time you find yourself without anyone around you. Are you at peace, or are you yearning? Are you lonely, or are you merely alone?
