Love You Still

“MAPS FOR LOST LOVERS” by Sam Seddon
When you speak to me,
Something obstructs your throat,
Your tongue dried like a pink strand of seaweed left in the sun,
And I cannot hear you against the clashing of the ocean.
Or perhaps it is I who cannot speak another language,
And one day forgot the dialect you taught me,
And love became inarticulate to my ears.
It does not matter, I’ll chop them off, these ears,
For they are only a distraction beneath my hair—
There’s only one thing I try to tell you now,
I loved you once, I love you still,
I always have, and I always will.
