“BORN IN STEEL” by Virgosun
Is there an after? The idea of reincarnation—as some of my loved ones believe—sounds even more too good to be true to me. A happy fantasy. But if you think about it, are not angels and harps and silvery clouds a happier fantasy still? I know fantasy is important—it is essential—for us as living, thinking, feeling creatures. But is it real?
All in all, reincarnation is more optimistic of the two. A good fit for optimists—or a golden bullet, a last chance, even for the pessimists. No wonder so many people believe in it. You’re given a second—third—how many?—chances to “redeem” yourself. Even a slug has more hope and joy (I can only assume, not being a slug… yet?), than a demon-plagued, fire-swathed soul.
Or perhaps, as my mother says, it is all in the now, and your conscience dictates your heaven and your hell, your past and your future.
The answer? I don’t know it. But it’s food for thought, and there’s an endless banquet here you’re willing to partake in alongside me.
