“THE HARBINGER BIRDS” by Lynnette Shelley
You take to the skies again, and leave the ground to the rest of us.
You spread your wings and they swallow the sky, but is it a sky of spaces or illusions?
You call me an eagle but it takes just one crack of the gun,
To leave me suspended—
Not in a sky, but in an oblivion.
And despite that all,
You’ve always still believed in me.
