“WOODEN HORSE” by SuddenJim

My father believes in a world of unspoken possibilities, of endless opportunities, and of limitless solutions. For everyproblem, he asserts, there is an equal and opposite solution.The key is to define the problem—before you solve it. For how can you sort out a puzzle when you haven’t even found all the pieces?

In that world, every person is a soul of goodness. The goodness may be tainted by darkness, smudged by the bleakness of a harsher reality, trampled by the negativity and bitterness of those who were never given a chance to believe. In that world, no one is a monster, no one lusts for dominance or is addicted to deceit, no one has bad intentions to the core.  Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, and sometimes theyare innocent—or have the possibility of regaining innocence—even after proven guilty. He believes there is a wooden horse to get through to anyone; there is a way to touch the heart of every man and woman. The question is… which way, and what horse?

As far as I’ve understood, in that world this does not mean that there is no cure-all. But there is a different cure for each different individual. There is a battle that is launched everyday that is fought with swords of love and shields of truth, with hymns for battle-cries and white flags for armor.

I am beginning to believe in these battles, as I have always believed in this world. But I do not have complete faith in my army—I am ashamed to admit that, but it’s true. I fear that the Might will crush the Right, and that individual sacrifice is the only solution for a general victory. I must come to terms with the fact that battles will be lost for the sake of winning the war.  And I fight first with my inner demons—because first I must ensure that my faith overcomes my fear. I think that only then will I understand how good can forever overcome evil—within us, around us, and beyond us.
