I never quite understood the utility of a tie.

Admittedly, I don’t understand a lot of things.

The significance of it is, perhaps, feasible. A symbol of put-
togetherness, or making up a knot like you make up your mind, a
flourish of finality before honey-I’m-off-to-work-bye. Does it give
people a sense of accomplishment? Like I’ve-managed-to-do-a-
ridiculous-intricate-knot-so-hey-bring-it-on? Sure, I’ve never tied a tie
in my life, so perhaps I don’t know what I’m missing.

I always through of it as an upside down exclamation mark, like the
ones the Spaniards use; as if the (Spanish?) tie was wondering (in
Spanish?) why the hell a man would tie a noose around his neck
every morning.
